During the second presidential debate, we finally saw Bush's secret weapon: No matter how unspecific he is, no matter how much he distorts facts, lies or bases his positions on his "I was chosen by god and regularly talk with him" view, he
believes in all that crap.
When I looked at Cheney, I saw a good intelligent liar. When I looked at Bush tonight, I saw a guy who doesn't read newspapers or watch the news, never cared much about history, world politics, economics, etc. I see a guy that lives in a bubble where handlers and puppet-masters control his environment so as to reinforce his beliefs and lead him where they want him.
That's probably what costed him the first debate, because he really believed his side's propaganda about Kerry and thought that he didn't have prepare too much for the debate because it would be a piece of cake. But tonight, we saw that same thing turn to his advantage.
It doesn't make it okay and it's very scary to think that a man like that could lead the world's only superpower, but it can be useful at the small-politics level.
