I think both campaigns know the outcome already. Not every state, not the final tally of PV or EV. But both campaigns know that Bush has lost. Kerry fucking KNOWS. How do I know he knows?
Language. It's all in the language. I know some people might think I'm reaching, but I don't think so. Not really. Let me explain.
Well,
this article reveals all, in my opinion.
Key quotes are these:
KERRY
"I expect this election is going to be decided Tuesday night," Kerry told The Associated Press on Sunday, "but, given experience, I would be irresponsible if I wasn't prepared to be able to protect every person's right to vote." He expects to be victorious, but he's on the watch, and he's sending a signal to Rove that Florida 2000 tactics, either at the polls or in the courts, are not going to work this time. No way, Karl, is what Big John is saying. Don't even think about it, is the message. You know I've won. I know I've won. A kind of 'Ratfuck this landslide, asshole. Just try'.
BUSH
We'll see how it goes Tuesday night but I really think it's important not to have a world of lawsuits that stop the will of the people from going forward," the president told "Dateline NBC.
Sound confident to you? He should be saying "I believe we're going to win, just as we are winning the war on terror." But no. It's just "we'll see how it goes, but let's not get into a repeat of 2000 only with the Dems fighting back this time". He's going to concede early and graciously, to elicit popular sympathy.
I interpret that quote, in other words, to mean that Bush knows damn well that the American people will not stand for him getting another 4 years on the basis of court rulings. He's just about a pariah now. Contesting his way in the courts to another term would send people over the edge. And so, he is going to concede early, in order to salvage what's left of his reputation.
Rove KNOWS: Asked what Bush is doing to save his voice, Rove cracked, "Just chewing on me less every day." He wants to fight on past Tuesday, but Bush is telling him, no. And Rove is gradually giving up the will in the face of Bush's determination to not be Persona Non Grata on the world stage, which he knows he will be if he tries to win again like he did in 2000. Though I think he may try to run in 2008. Ugh!
Now, moving onto infinitely more pleasant thoughts, these are the words of a man who knows he is going to be president:
Kerry told the AP that if elected he would quickly name a Cabinet and begin a "flurry of activity" to heighten the country's security. "I'm going to make America safer and I have some very strong and real steps to take quite immediately to make that happen," Kerry said.
And this is the kicker:
Asked about former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani's comments that troops in Iraq bore responsibility for missing explosives, Bush told NBC he never blames the troops. "I'd be glad to blame myself," he said.
Wow. Bush never admits to mistakes. This carefully avoids admitting one technically, but is in fact an admission that the Al-Qaqaa fiasco sealed his fate. It was all downhill from there.
That was the point of no return. WMD? Non existent. Real weapons that might get into the hands of terrorists?
"Er, I lost 'em. Don't know where they are. I'm a major league fuck-up."
Bush is saying in his stupid grotesquely Bushesque way that al-Qaqaa was when the house of cards collapsed. The OBL tape was merely the coup de grace. Which is why they didn't do a whole lot with it, other than pathetically accuse Kerry of politicizing it.
Want more? Ok, I'll give you more.
JFK would not take a chance on this lighthearted but confident claim unless he KNEW. He knows alright.
All that remains is GOTV, the casting of the ballots, and casting of BushCo into some dark place where there will be much weeping, teeth-gnashing, and worm immortality.
