Hi guys,
I've never done an entry before... so maybe no one will read this. We'll see! Anyway, yes, the election results suck. Even if there were as much rampant fraud as many of you think, the results would still be discouraging. In a sane world, Bush's own family would have stood in line to vote against him.
My personal feelings on the situation are that the DNC is losing ground in this country because we are constantly playing catch up (original, I know). Every time we seem to be trying to undo or unsay what some Republican psycho threw out into the ether and was then totally unaccountable for. I really think we need to stop playing nice guys and start aiming for the groin at every opportunity. I have plenty of ideas that, if anyone cares, I'd love to talk about. Dirty advertising, slander, push polling... we can't ignore these nightmares and we certainly don't seem capable of fighting them, so we might as well use them. They are now a part of our political reality. Wouldn't it be great if Republicans had to do the explaining for once?
First though, I'd like to advocate a readjusting of the language. Republicans and the media have defined nonsense terms like "pro-life." They aren't in the dictionary, and they only mean what the public thinks they mean at any given time. So I think we should all start saying we are pro-life. Only people who advocate genocide and mass suicide aren't. I'm pro-life, in that I like living and want to help other people be able to live (preferrably by stopping wars). At the very least it would baffle the Religous Right and jump start a debate about what it means to be pro-life. And if we all become pro-life, the word loses its punch. It's a thought anyway.
I'm sure a lot of people much smarter than I am (this site seems like it's loaded with 'em) will tell me why this is a dumb idea, but I'm sick of being outmaneuvered by the Right, and it's time for thinking outside of the box.
I dream of a world where Democrats stand outside of every Fundamentalist church in the country with pictures of dead soldiers emblazoned with the letters "WWJD."
