I got an e-mail from my counties' Kerry/Edwards campaign director. She sent all the Delaware County PA volunteers an appreciative and hopeful note because of our general success here in PA.
These two lines basically sum up what she said:
"It is great to read about the success of the suburbs in winning PA. I will be watching with interest upcoming elections now that I know the dynamic"
(more on that here)
A good chunk of that is due to Delaware county, where Kerry won by 40,000 votes (kewl)
She also said : "I can't wait to see John and tell him about each of you. I'm sure he'll be ready for some good news."
So of course, I had to ask her to pass a message on to John Kerry. I copied the message below.
Hi Sally,
This is <dfields>; I was the site-manager for Lansdowne.
When you see Senator Kerry, please pass this message along from the 55 Million people who voted for him, for the rest of his time in Congress, please do one thing:
Fight.
For myself, I do not agree with this whole "Mandate" baloney.
Yes, GWB has the received the most votes of any U.S. President, but John Kerry received the second most votes. Second only to GWB. I think that means something.
I disagree with Senator Kerry on one thing and one thing only: Now is NOT the time to be conciliatory. When Clinton was elected in 1992, Bob Dole said "Clinton will get no help
here (from the Senate)". Honestly, Republicans fight the Democratic Party on just about everything and I am FINISHED compromising with them.
When I heard that John Kerry ignored Clinton's advice to support the anti-gay marriage amendments (Newsweek) I was more proud then ever that I had voted for John. Please tell him that Sally, I am actually more proud after the election that I voted for John Kerry. If we did it all over again I would want John Kerry to do the same thing, to stick to his principles. We'd still lose, but I would still be proud of him.
So please Sally, tell John Kerry that now is NOT the time to compromise. Every citizen in this country needs to be treated fairly and equally. Also, these U.S. Citizens still need to be protected from corporations, insurance companies,
incompetent Doctors, unfair labor practices as well as terrorists.
Some voices in the Democratic Party say we need to move MORE to the "center". I say if we move any more to the "center" there will be two right wing parties in this country. It's time to recruit the people of this country who are not
voting to the Democratic party, I don't think trying to steal voters away from the Republicans is going to work anymore.
That U.S. flag that John Kerry has fought for and served under? That flag belongs to everyone in this country, not just Republicans. And this country? This country that everyone lives in and that everyone pays taxes to? This country belongs to EVERYONE, not just the far right-wing of
the Republican Party.
John Kerry, please, do what you have done your whole life:
FIGHT
Sorry, that's probably a lot to tell him, but you have better access than I do ;-)
Sincerely
<dfields>
