Normally, I consider myself a fan of my unabahsed liberal senator Barbara Boxer. However, I am outraged by the fact that she was not a team player in our effort to take control of the senate according to Roll Call's Stu Rothenberg.
Apparently Barbara Boxer demanded that the DSCC give her $2 million for her campaign, even though she had far outdistanced her opponent in fundraising and it had become quite clear that republicans would not contest her seat.
In the end, Boxer won by over 20 points. Unfortunately Betty Castor and Dan Mongiardo will not be joining her in the senate, partly as a result of the fact that the DSCC did not have enough funds to fight Republicans in those contests. The DSCC is now $4 million in debt and 4 seats down in the senate.
Thanks a lot, Babs! While I'm not sure what to think about the controversy over Kerry's leftover cash, I think we can agree that democratic members of congress need to stop hording funds and start working together if we are going to take back either chamber of congress in the near future.
