WASHINGTON -- Defeated Texas Congressman Martin Frost is among potential candidates for chairman of the Democratic National Committee who are telephoning members about the situation, a leading Democrat said Monday.
"The following candidates are making phone calls to DNC members -- Howard Dean, Donnie Fowler, Martin Frost and Leo Hindery," said Mark Brewer, party chairman in Michigan and president of the Association of State Democratic Chairs.

Dean and Frost seem like the serious contenders to me. Hindery is a media executive, and former chairman of YES (Yankees) network in New York. Fowler is a Democratic strategist, and son of former national chairman.
Frost is a progressive Democrat by Texas standards (i.e. not a self-identified "Blue Dog"), but hardly a progressive by Northeastern standards. He was for the Iraq war, but also is a strong supporter of a woman's right to choose, and believes in protecting Social Security. Any Texans have additional thoughts on him?
Dean.. well.. no need to say much more on this board.
So a real red-state/blue-state, moderate/progressive battle in the works? Any thoughts?
