Ok, assume I'm in denial. Is it because I often believe that this election was stolen? Do I box out reality when I observe that when Zogby looked at the exit polls and called an "Electoral Landslide" for Kerry, he was looking at real exit poll results. Is this a fantasy scenario because I can't believe that the record turnout witnessed all over was actually mostly Bush supporters?
I really can't believe that the top reason, according to what are currently being called the exit polls, that Bush won voters is not the economy, no not the war, not even homeland security, but moral issues. WTF. Where did they poll?
Can I just not face the reality that a president with <48% job approval can win >50% of the votes in such a huge election against so motivated and cohesive an opposition and so fractured a base?
Or it that all reasonable observation, and I am really in denial when I imagine that the election was clean and close and Bush won, and that Democracy is alive in America. I want to believe that. Although I have a vested interest in Bush remaining in power, (my anti-bush paraphernalia collection willl stay relevant), I dread what it means.
When I imagine that U.S. troops are so over-stretched that the regime will not be able to pick new wars, am I living in a bubble? As Lily Tomlin said, "no matter how cynical I get, it is never enough"
