We need our own wedge issues.
It's no coincidence that where we needed to win there were anti-gay ballot measures. This tactic helped to get the republican fundamentalist base angry, scared and straight (pun intended) to the polls. It was smart as hell.
For 2006, we need our own ballot measures. I dunno what necessarily, but something along the lines of a ballot measure in swing states that would require reserve service for young people. Or that all states would have to "submit" x number of names to the federal government for military service. Or that those who do not attend church weekly would be required to attend religious indoctrination classes at the local high school once a month. Or that people who are not married do not have the right to minimum wage.
I know all these things sound absurd, but we need SOMETHING to place on ballot initiatives that would rile up those not-quite-so-right leaning people who voted for Bush because they "didn't want to change horses in the middle of the stream."
