My impression is that we at Dkos have now hit bottom. Or maybe it's just me! A lot of anger has been vented, fewer recriminations have been flung than might have been, the trolls are falling away. The SCLM is happy to bash, and continuing its group approach to themes. Right now it's that Kerry didn't offer a clear plan. I think that's rubbish, but there it is. The easiest target for now are the cable networks. More than one person, including me, has suggested just swearing off cable news. It will be interesting to see whether it has an effect.
Yet it's a bad situation, and a certainty of evil ahead, without the power of doing very much about it. One oddity has been the silence and absence of Democratic Party leadership since the election was lost. It's amazing that no one has stepped up to rally the troops. Any Dem leader who would stand up and send out some encouraging words right now would find a grateful readership.
I continue to think about the changes in attitude a global perspective might bring. LondonYank had an excellent diary on this today.
The jobs figure was high today. Perhaps it will be sustained, but the steady drain of investment from the US continues. I need to see three more months of growth above 150k jobs.
Vioxx, a popular painkilling drug, was apparently a problem in 2000, but Merck didn't withdraw it until this year. Corporations are global, not national, and they will not police themselves; our protection is the government, which Bushco is systematically weakening vis a vis corporations.
Lots of chatter about "frames" and discourses today. It made a good deal of sense but right now, with everybody exhausted, speaking truths, simple or raw, has more appeal.
