A number of folks have said it's time to heal the divide in this country. In order for that to happen though, the GOP would have to move back from the brink of neo-fascism to a centrist position. Given where we are in 2004, that's unlikely, even though half of this country voted against Bush's policies. I just don't see the GOP as being a center-right party any longer.
That said, here's a further sign though that the center-left coalition formed around Kerry is not happy at all, and this represents part of the youth vote that turned out for him:
We live in a country that's in a shroud of ignorance. We do not compromise or come together with them. We fight them and everything they stand for. We as a community have to take care of each other and respect each other because apparently our current government has no interest in that. They do not care about gay people, they do not care about sick people, they do not care about black people, they do not care about poor people, they do not care about the rest of the world, they do not care about our environment, and they especially don't care about a woman's right to choose. We may have lost the battle, shit we may have lost the war...but we are not losing our minds. WE ARE RIGHT...THEY ARE WRONG...just because we seem to be the minority doesn't mean we come together with them
So as the GOP continues its dance with the ghosts of oppressive regimes, and as those that support them consider their position just and right, we need to ensure that our broader coalition (which reaches beyond party affiliation, generations, beyond race and gender and sexual orientation, and reaches deep into the soul of what it means to be human) will NOT let this country be taken away from us.
So if there is ANY chance of proving there is voting malfesance in this election, we need to turn over every single rock and demand justice. Democracy is never pretty, nor is it easy. But it is up to us to ensure that it remains viable for the generations who are still to come.
