In the spirit of working on the "frame" war that we desparately need to join, I am posting this diary to discuss the judiciary.
After being whipped all weekend (despite efforts to avoid mainstream media) with Rove's diatribe about taking on "activist judges"..i realized we do not have a counterpoint to this frame and it is going to be one of our biggest issues. Judges are going to be deciding everything from what our kids learn and say in school to personal reproductive issues.
I believe we can engage the otherwise general apathetic public about this.
We need a name for theocrat judges. How 'bout:
"Anti-separation judges"
"Church-rule judges"
practicing "Church-law" from the bench
We need a name that resonates down to the Nascar Dad in all of us who doesn't want his preacher telling him how to live. (yes, I have been reading Lakoff's book.)
I think we can engage even church-going, esp rural, people who voted for Bush if we re-frame this "activist judges" issue as a separation of church and state issue. Many of these voters are salt-of-the-earth/defend-separation-of-church- and-state types. We need a buzz phrase or two to punt the ball back in that direction. We need to start now, before the Renquist post is filled.
please post your ideas and how to best get them out there.
