I came across this article on, of all places, Fox News:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,141303,00.html
It basically documents how the memebers of Disney's board of directors have substantial ties to Halliburton and Carlisle, two of the entities that are skewered in Michael Moore's film, "Farenheit 9/11."
Now, much has been written about the corporate media and how, by virtue of its numerous conflicts of interest, it filters out news and information and points of view that are not favorable to the interests of the corporate and political elites in our country.
Well, there is an often overlooked way in which these conflicts of interest exist, and this article unwittingly illustrates it . . . quite apart from the bruhaha over Disney's decision not to distribute Moore's film.
Disney happens to own ABC, one of America's three major broadcats networks.
Now, with the ties talked about in the article between Disney and Halliburton and Carlisle, is it any wonder that ABC, during the run up to the Iraq War, participated in the corporate media blackout of news, information, and points of view that undermined the Administration's case for war?
After all, both Halliburton and Carlisle stood to benefit greatly from a war with Iraq. Thus, should we be surprised that ABC chose to get on board with the Administration in its dissemination of pro-war propaganda by ignoring or marginalizing information that would have shown that the Administration was not being truthful in its claims about Saddam, WMD and Al Queda ties, information that was readily available to anyone on the Internet BEFORE THE WAR BEGAN and that has been since vindicated as true?
The point is, that often, the members of boards of directors of major media conglomerates ALSO sit on the boards of directors of other corporateions or have substantial ties to these other corporations. Such incestuous relationships present yet another form of conflicts of interest that corrupt the way that the corporate media presents the news to the American public.
