I've never been to a protest or demonstration before. But I feel I'm ready for one now! I don't know what else to do. I'm sitting here watching Bush use his self-declared "mandate" to gear up for his final push to destroy everything this country stands for. And I see no credible opposition to this in Washington. I feel it's time for "We, the People," to take matters into our own hands. It's time for us to show Bush, his cabal, the media, fellow Americans, and the rest of the world, that he does
not have our support. He does
not have a mandate. We do
not consent to what he's doing to our country.
And we will not stand for it.
I searched both dKos and Google to see what protests were planned on inauguration day and was surprised to find very little. I did see
http://www.turnyourbackonbush.org/ and
http://www.counter-inaugural.org. I was glad to see those events planned in DC, but what about for those of us who can't make it across the country on Jan. 20th? And while protests in DC send a great national message, what about messages to local representatives in Congress? It would be great to see protests all around the country, with large ones in NYC, SF, Chicago, LA, Miami, Seattle, Denver, etc... I do think such action would be valuable - and necessary - for two primary reasons:
- We need to show Bush - and the media - that he does not, in fact, have his self-declared mandate. We do not agree with his second term agenda. We will fight him all the way.
- Just as importantly, we need to show our spineless representatives in Congress that we will support their opposition to the Republicans.
I don't know what else to do at this point.
So, are there local protests being planned that I'm unaware of? If not, what say we plan our own here? Just what is dKos capable of?
