This has been a big week in the film industry. With the Hollywood Foreign Press
announcing its nominations for the 2005 Golden Globes. So, were there any big surprises? More...
The only big surprises for me were the absence of Mel Gibson's controversial flick,
The Passion of The Christ, in any of the major contests (good, I didn't see it, but don't want to either) and the emergence of a relatively small film,
Sideways, getting seven nods, the most of any film this year. This film was highly recommended by several of you kossacks out there last week and I still haven't seen it. But I will. I did manage to see
Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind, which I recommend, as does the Hollywood Foreign Press, as it was nominated for Best Movie (Comedy), Best Screenplay, written by Charlie Kaufman (a personal favorite) and both leads, Jim Carrey and kate Winslet were nominated for Best Actor/Actress in a Comedy as well. Clint Eastwood got props as well, for his movie,
Million Dollar Baby, featuring the talented Academy Award winner,
Hilary Swank and Academy Award Nominee, Morgan Freeman. Sounds like a great cast but salon.com gave it a big thumbs down in a recent review.
Robin Williams, a genius IMHO, will be honored with the Cecil B. DeMille this year.
The Golden Globe nomination is known as the kickoff to Oscar season. What do you think? I would like to keep this diary open to any and all movie related (or not) conversation. Anyone seen any good movies lately? How about movies that sucked?
Happy Friday!!!
