To quote James Carville,
I've had enough! As far as know, this is still my country too. The only mandate any president has, is to uphold and defend the Constitution of this country and I am willing to fight any person who tries to say otherwise. I'm done being bullied and I hope you are too. As of today, I'm adopting a
policy of non-compliance.
Not one more inch, not one more minute. If the "values voters" and greedy thugs are going to take this country and turn it into a corporate fascist hell, they'll do it over my loud and continuous objection. I'm going to make them earn it! If it worked for Ghandi, why not us?
I'm a Colorado native, latte-sipping, intellectual, liberal elitist stuck for the forseeable future in the Bible belt. (SE Tennessee). My local environment is ripe with possibilities for objection and on occasion, civil disobedience.
I'll start with public school. My older children attend an elementary school where the Constitution is no more than a speed bump. They openly pray to Jesus during classroom pizza parties, hold non-secular Christmas and Easter celebrations and generally disregard any separation of church and state...until now. I'm taking my video camera to the Christmas pageant this year, where I'll gleefully record the music teacher asking us to bow our heads, and I'll make sure to get the nativity scene under the school Christmas tree. Then I'll whistle jingle bells all the way to the ACLU office in Nashville. I'll loudly object to prayers before PTA meetings.
I'll vote "no" on blue laws and "yes" for a state lottery every time it comes up.
I'll run for elected office, within the near-death democratic party, then within the local government. I won't once pander to blue dogs or anyone else who wants to force my children back to the dark ages.
I'll organize carpools to Costco, 50 miles away. I'll make a list of every progressive business in the county and lead the charge to convince progressive to patronize them-- exclusively. I'll lead a minimalist existence, shopping at green grocers.
I'll call a spade a spade and stupid, stupid every time. I'll stand up for children being abused in public, even if I'm scared to. I'll invite Southern Baptist children to my house for playdates and present them with an alternative view of family, with kindness, generosity and critical thought.
I'll teach my children to be activists, to stand up to bullies.
I'd like to sue Rush Limbaugh for slander. (He constantly makes inflammatory and knowingly false accusations which damage my reputation as a liberal.) Then I'd like to see some class-action product liability against Diebold, ES&S, et. al.
I firmly believe that we must force the rethugs and religious reich to expend time, energy and money. Say it with me, "Obstruction and non-compliance, all the time."
I welcome the comments and suggestions of all of you, whose opinions and dedication I respect tremendously.
