Though Armando has insisted
otherwise, Rumors are not always true. Joe Lieberman is not the next Homeland Security Chief. Bush has
nominated NYC Police Commishioner Bernard Kerrick. Yet, many people used this rumor that the HS nomination would go to Lieberman as confirmation that Lieberman was a sell out and that he was only interested in himself. I think there were many who jumped the gun on this one, and I'm wondering how many are willing to admit their error in this particular instance for trashing the guy for something that never was.
What's great about the Democratic Party is that it has a big umbrella. We do the Party a big disservice when we try to say who is and who is not a Democrat. And it's particularly inappropriate to use rumors to make that distiction.
There isn't a single Democrat that I agree with all the time. In fact, there are a few that baffle me. But given the fact that it is very possible that the Republicans could get a 60-vote majority in the Senate in two years, I'd rather concentrate my energies on getting Republicans out of office, than getting my least favorite Democrats replaced by ones that I tolerate more. The stakes are too high. Leave that for another day. I'm worried about numbers and I want the numbers to be on my side.
