A discussion group called politics 2302: Draft the Children of the Elected Elite started Monday over on the WELL with the following statement from evan:
"I want to start a movement. I want to start a movement to have every
draft-age child of every elected Federal officeholder and every Federal
appointee immediately drafted, trained and sent to a combat unit in
Iraq.
I want to see that the relevant legislation specifies that the very
first two people to be drafted are Barabara and Jenna Bush. I want to
see them in uniform in a foxhole.
I'm dead serious. We need to organize a movement demanding this thru
every venue possible.
Who's up for it? I am."
More:
After a little hesitation, people started working on how to get it out in the public square. As one member said:
"I'm there. If one of them can take the place of my 17 year old going
to get his ass blown off I'm in with both boots."
First, there was a discussion about a pithy acronym for the legislation. The winner was:
The Patriot Corps
Sudsy then comes up with the motto:
"The Patriot Corps: Proud, Privileged, Second to None in War or Peace "
And Evan e mails:
Email sent to Sens. Boxer and Feinstein, and Rep. Lynn Woolsey:
"I urge you to introduce legislation to draft the draft-age sons and
daughters of every single elected Federal officeholder and every single
appointed Federal officeholder, have them trained, and immediately
assigned to a combat unit in Iraq, sex notwithstanding. The only
medical exception allowed should be for para- and quadraplegics.
I urge you to specify that the very first two persons to be subject to
it are Barbara and Jenna Bush.
I think it's high time for anyone who has in any way supported this
war (and you're one of them) to put up or shut up with the lives of
their children.
I am completely serious, and intend to start a movement to accomplish
just this."
The comments started to fly, just like they do here on Kos:

The proposal needs to be introduced as an offer to show patriotism. This
is a chance for our leaders to show how much they love our country. We
need a Patriot Corps where the children of our leaders can set an example
for the rest of the country.

I am loving this idea. With enough publicity, it could have some
chickenhawks feeling very on the spot.

Finally Evan asks:
"How do we get this into the blogosphere? I think it may have legs."
So I asked everybody's permission and brought it here. Will the kossians help with this meme bat? We shall see.
