In 2005, I think we should be worried about the following five things. Maybe these aren't the only things, but they are things we could maybe do something about.
1) Save social security from privatization. Bush will ruin it if we let him.
2) Save our courts from awful judges. Not conservative, intelligent judges (if they exist), but bad judges who push a political agenda. This means the senate dems should pick their battles with the nominees. Saving the filibuster belongs here too.
3) Save what's left of our civil liberties. I'm not happy with the path the Bushies are taking us on this. Neither are some of our opponents, so we might have a chance here.
4) Get Republicans to disagree. There are diverse groups of views within the Republican Party. We should do everything possible to move whatever they try to do to the center. We should do that without kissing up to the fascists in their party and always noting that it is not the best solution, but only what we could do right now.
5) Stop the DLC from further corrupting our party. These guys are going to turn us into a minority party that stands for nothing. I'm not anti-corporate, anti-defense, or really anti-anything but religious fundamentalist. Still, I'm anti-DLC because they are a force for corruption of our values.
What do ya'll think?
