In positive news, it seems that our man Hary Reid isn't the bigges fan of Clarence Thomas. When on MTP today, he had some interesting words for a man who's most memorable opinion was that his confirmation hearing was a "lynching for uppity blacks."
Quoth CNN
I think that he has been an embarrassment to the Supreme Court...I think that his opinions are poorly written. I just don't think that he's done a good job as a Supreme Court justice
So woo Harry Reid...until a few lines later, when we get (in refernce to Scalia)
I cannot dispute the fact, as I have said, that this is one smart guy...And I disagree with many of the results that he arrives at, but his reasons for arriving at those results are very hard to dispute
But he does then follow up with reminding everyone that ole' Antonin does have "some ethics problems."
So I guess Harry went 2 for 3 today. I like the lines on Thomas - that's the kind of thing we need to be saying; something that everybody knows is true, but no one will sa for fear of offending people. And I like reminding the world that Scalia's a crook - as he most certainly is. But I'm torn on the isse of praising Scalia.
On one hand, he's a raging ideologue with an agenda to promote (that's very divergent with my own). On the other, he is one hell of a jurist - in that his opinions are well-written and clearly argued.
Combining this with the "War Room" story from earlier, and Harry's sitting a little over .500 so far.
Maybe it's just me, but you'd think that someone who's responsibile for judging everyone in the country couldn't afford to have "some ehtics problems." Clinton had a few ethical issues, and they impeached him! Nixon had more than a few, and he damaged the office of the President for generations. But Antonin is allowed to be groomed to be the highest judge in the land, while doing things like going hunting with a man you're investigating.
