This is my first diary entry so please be gentle.
These are from me as a novice pouring over the USA today docs posted here:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/2004-02-14-bush-docs.htm
I'm still in the process of going through all of them, but I'd thought I would take a break and brain dump what I've discovered so far.
Overall there is little new post May '72. In fact overall it seems like May '72 marks a transition point.
Before May '72
- Documentation is fairly regular and copious. A lot of signatures, copies and dates on everything.
- Normal drill activity & attendence except that May '71 - May '72 it seems to drop off quite a bit
- Normal progression in rank to 1st lieutenant
After May '72- Documentation drops off a cliff
- No progression in ranks (possible regression). Unusual
Notes while reading the various collection of documents.
Notes on 3 - Grade Determination
- Page 25: Request for AFOQT (Air Force Officer Qualifying Test)
- Test Control Ffficer: Ralph J. Iannuzzi
- Scores: Pilot = 25
- Pilot score of 25 is lowest possible passing for a pilot per this site. The 25 is a percentage.
- The original score was scratched out by Iannuzzi! (he initialed change). This means either original score was higher or lower. It's barely scratched out so maybe someone can take a guess at what it was before?
- The rest of the grades are pretty ok I guess (I don't know what the typical averages are tho')

AREA ASSIGNMENT PREFERENCES
- DO NOT VOLUNTEER FOR OVERSEAS is checked.
- Page 20 of 3 - Grade Determination
- Part of his application it requires him to state any crimes or traffic violations...
- Misdemeanor - New Haven Conn - Dec 1966 - Charge Dismissed
- Two Speeding Tickets - July 64 - Aug 64 - $10 Fine - Houston Traffic Ct
- Two Negligent Collisions - July 62 - Aug 62 - $25 Fine - Houston Traffic Ct.
I'll fill in more later...
I'm looking at an interesting document AF Form 1712 - prep for RCD Review (records review?). AKA Uniform Military Personnel Record. Dated: May ??, '73. It has a last OER (Officer Exam Review) of April 30, 1973 (I've seen no such review in the files so far). It also lists his last physical on May '71 (on page 17). A little googling suggests this might be a followup regarding the inability to generate a performance review for that year for TexANG. I don't think the actual thing this is a prep for is in these records either. Very interesting indeed.
I gotta run, I'll update this journal entry later.
