Look... I like Dean... I really do. But I will be very dissapointed with Edwards if he chooses Dean as his VP. It would be a dangerous and a poor strategic decision. We all know Edwards strengths... optimism, charisma, electoral moderation, southern charm (maybe we should file that under charisma), and fantastic domestic policy proposals.
However, Edwards has glaring weaknesses as a candidate.
- He Makes a terrible attack dog. Wont go negative
- Minimal experience or credibility in National Security and Foreign policy
- Looks overly youthful and possibly unprepared to lead this country (although this is 100% media about electability bs).
While Dean would make a great attack dog, He provides no real support on Edwards other 2 weaknesses, especially foreign policy. Edwards is going to need a kickass foreign policy/national security VP. That cannot be Dean. Despite Dean's ideas and ideals, he has never worked in foreign policy. And the GOP Wants to run this campaign on national security.
Furthermore, the media will be focusing on Edwards youth and inexperience should he hit the general election, and Dean doesnt really do much to dissuade that line of thinking. This may be media bullshit, but its gonna affect our chances of winning. So Edwards will need a "steady experienced hand" to guide his leadership.
To make all three of these a reality... Edwards should look for VPs like Sam Nunn of Georgia, Wesley Clark, Bob Graham of Florida, or Bob Kerrey of Nebraska. Even Joe Biden of Deleware would do the trick, though i dont like the man very much.
