It's worth paying attention to what's going on in Haiti. The implications for our foreign policy are enormous. I'd argue that they serve to indict the Global War on Terror (tm).
How much power do we have?:
with our current international deployments, one wonders what our military commanders could effectively do in Haiti (or any other country) even if it were determined to intervene.
Are folks catching on?:
are the various border skirmishes in the hinterlands of American hegemony (in parts of Asia, Africa and Latin America) leaving open the opportunity for "legitimate democratizing movements" with no current role in the GWOT? (I.e., does the US now lack the rhetorical advantage in intervening not just vis a vis "terra" but for other reasons?)
Are some of those folks European?:
we used the Monroe Doctrine pretty effectively for a long time.
Since we've taken it upon ourselves to save the world from terrorism, our dear European friends feel obliged to offer a hand in our own hemisphere?
