Is it you Cheney? How about you, Ashcroft? Where were you on the night of February 2nd at around 8pm? DeLay, do you have anything to say? Speak up son! We're not leaving this room until we get some answers!
So I woke up yesterday morning to NPR expecting to hear that the polls are about to open in 7 states. Instead I hear that Bill Frist found some ricin in his congressional mail. Now, if this was February 3, 1999, I would have been quite alarmed. However, my first thought was, "another manufactured headline grabber". My wife called me a cynic, and to be honest, I have become a little more cynical recently.
Do I really believe in my heart of hearts that this was a ploy? No, but the fact that I had to consider whether my own government had a hand in it is really the issue. To some degree we've gotten used to the lies. However, there are moments when you take yourself out of the daily rut, to poke your head up and look around, and you realize how far we've wandered.
Trust
We've looked at a number of criteria in picking our candidates including electability, social class, geographic heritage, botox, etc. I think it's also important that I pick a candidate whom I trust and whose judgment I trust. Sometimes things don't need to get that complicated.
