The Democratic Party is after Howard Dean to set a departure date. So Howard Dean needs to pull off some wins in other states -(and I'm sure he'll need more that Wisconsin, PLEASE).
Dean Says He Will Quit Race if He Fails to Win Wisconsin

FLINT, Mich., Feb. 5 -- Howard Dean sent an overnight e-mail message to supporters saying he would quit the Democratic presidential race if he did not win the Wisconsin primary on Feb. 17.
The message, which comes as Dr. Dean is under increasing pressure to quit the race from unions and members of Congress supporting his campaign, is a marked shift from the candidate's recent comments.
"The entire race has come down to this: we must win Wisconsin," Dr. Dean, the former governor of Vermont, said in the e-mail, which asked for $50 contributions, with a goal of raising $700,000 by Sunday, to put television advertisements up before Wisconsin's primary.
"Anything less will put us out of this race."
Dr. Dean predicted decent showings in this weekend's caucuses in Michigan and in Washington state and Maine, but said "our true test will be the Wisconsin primary," where a victory, he said, could propel the campaign forward to the major showdowns on March 2, known as Super Tuesday, and March 9.
"All that you have worked for these past months," he warned, "is on the line on a single day, in a single state."
HOWARD!
Howard Dean needs more that a SINGLE state, OKAY. Jeebus, that guy says some stupid things.
BUT The thing about departing the race, should Dean NOT win Wisconsin is the fact, as you might already have noticed, that as Dean's poll numbers fall, so to has the Democratic Primary from off the front pages of the News Headlines and off the TOP NEWS line on the Google news site.
The photo-op engineer gurus of Sen. John Kerry's campaign won't inspire TV ratings because ABB is something silly voters cling too but NOT the mainstreet liberal pundits, NOT NYT or WP, Slate, The Nation, The New Republic or The American Prospect or any of the TV network pundits (well maybe Mark Sheilds would put in a good word).
John Kerry didn't (and doesn't) inspired these journalist with his usally "status quo" voting style in congress nor his lack luster commentary.
John Kerry's record as a Vietnam vet some 30 damn years ago will fizzle. Mainstream media WILL NOT care about his Nam experience no matter what photo-op Kerry tries to engineer after (if) Dean leaves the race.

Kerry fails to inspire airways with necessary ALL-STAR Ratings for ANY of the networks whenever Kerry flashing his long egalitarian mug on TV.
Fact is, that Bush is more interesting in his horrible way than is Kerry in his driftwood way.
SO the question is---WILL the media rush to Kerry's aid when Bush gets around to "Unleashing the Id"?
Personally, I think that John Kerry will fall on his own sword and nobody at the NYT or the WP or other media outlets will rush to help Kerry get up. I believe that fact will either make or break a candidate in the run up for President in 2004.
NOT being able to invigorate and/or inspire the professional mainstream liberal media in a way that Howard Dean was able to do, will be a death sentence for Kerry.
Voters are ABB---The media is NOT ABB.
Here are a few examples of what John Kerry didn't get or will not be ABLE to expect from the media:
Political analyst Molly Ivins recently explained, John Kerry's problem is that he doesn't have any Elvis.
Is Paul Krugman ABB? Does Kerry have Fuzzy Math? Many Democrats have called for a partial rollback of the Bush tax cuts....... Such a partial rollback would have reduced this year's budget deficit by about $180 billion; that would help, but one hopes politicians realize that it's not enough.
Slate Magazine's many articles:
Mickey Kaus's Kausfiles Newsweek's Isikoff catches the Democratic frontrunner in a damage control lie about not meeting notorious campaign contributior Johnny Chung...
William Saletan's very important question Death of a Salesman Can John Kerry sell John Kerry?
Chris Suellentrop's puzzled worry about Iowa and NH's top pick Landslide Kerry The mystifying appeal of the Massachusetts senator.
Sort of exactly the same hollow treatment as that of "Help! They're calling me an obstructionist, again" Sen. Tom Daschle.
Welcome back to world of the spineless Democrats - deja vu to the days of pre-Howard Dean because Dean did NOT rub off on anyone who is currently running for president, especially not John Kerry. Spines are not transferable, so even if Howard Dean says he motived the party - AND of course Howard Dean DID motive liberal voters but cetainly NOT our Democratic politicians.
Run NADER Run, because someone has to save our bacon if Howard Dean and his supporters can't pull of a few state wins.
