You may or may not have heard, but Urban Outfitters is now peddling a shirt with the slogan "voting is for old people" in funky disco letters. Sure, they claim (pathetically) that it is some brilliantly engineered reverse-statement on the sad state of affairs blah blah blah, but this needs to be swiftly dealt with. We all know (as does U.O. no matter how innocent they act) how the goofy little teenaged "voters of tomorrow" will react to this sort of thing, it will only reinforce the idea that voting isn't cool, unless it's the basis for an X-Box game or some shit.
Another point: Urban Outshitters gives generously to the Repugnicon party, and clearly their intent, no matter how hard they try to act as if they meant the opposite of what they said, is suspect.
Harvard Institute of Politics, punkvoter.com, and a million other groups are giving them hell for it, and I think it's time they felt the wrath of the blogosphere as well. Here a link to the Urbane Outfitter Corporate Officer contacts... Use it well:
