Thomas Frank has an excellent assessment of BushCo's positioning and marketing of the Liberal Elite Leftist stereotype. It's chilling to read the ridiculous stereotyping of those that eat sushi, drive Volvos, drink lattes and entertain flashbacks of the Dean attack ad released in Iowa last January.
This "backlash populism posits a true-blue heartland where real Americans eat red meat in big slabs, know all about farming, drink Budweiser, work hard with their hands and drive domestic cars." I wonder how many of us have friends and family back home, for various reasons, we no longer feel connected to?
Pardon my poor dilettante intellect, as more than once I've noted rather pompous and arrogant tones infecting this blogs various missives. " Being on the left is not about building common cause with others: it's about correcting others, about pointing out their shortcomings."
Any chance the DNC or Kerry will get wind of Thomas Frank? For my part, I called a buddy in Minnesota that, demonstrated against the Viet Nam war, voted for McGovern but in 2000 voted for Bush. We kicked it around real good, got his ex-hippy wife on the extension, she's now voting for Kerry (holding her nose) and my buddy is thinking he'll have to reconsider his position. Iraq war is a hard pill to swallow.
Frank knows what's Up
