Ms. Mai T. Dinh
Acting Assistant General Counsel
Dear Ms. Dinh,
I'm a huge fan of the First Amendment, and feel very stongly about Big Government imposing regulations upon my right to speak.
I contribute directly to many political campaigns, and understand the need to limit the direct influence of contributors dollars on the decisions made by elected officials. Money can and does taint the electoral process.
However, I also contribute to a number of not-for-profit organizations who are NOT tied to particular candidates. They support particular causes, and educate of the public about crucial civic issues through research and through mass media communication.
The FEC has no business treating the non-PAC activities of the NRA, the Sierra Club, MoveOn Voter Fund, etc., as if they were political committees. Don't trample on my First Amendment rights! And don't even THINK about changing the rules in the middle of an election cycle!
