Imagine. Actually asking the Iraqi people what their desires and goals are.
Rather than doing meaningless polls asking Iraqi's if they're happier with or without Saddam, UN diplomat Lakdhar Brahimi is "...talking to a cross section of what is left of Iraqi society -- clerics, union leaders, teachers, intellectuals, and lawyers" and he is doing what we are too arrogant to do. You see, we are the United States of America, and we know what's best for everyone. No need to ask.
"A well-informed European diplomat at the United Nations said Brahimi's mission was to discover what Iraqis actually wanted -- something, he claims, the U.S. administration in Iraq hasn't actually asked them.
"The most poll-driven nation in the world has done no opinion surveying in Iraq," the diplomat said."

If the UN responds to Bush's flip-flop cry for help ( http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A59417-2004Apr7.html ), there may be a way out of this mess, with decent results all the way around. But first, the Bush Imperialists need to let the real adults take over and clean up their mess.
