Political Wire:
Sen. John McCain, when asked if he would consider Sen. John Kerry's offer to be Secretary of Defense, told Hannity and Colmes: "No... I think I can have a much greater and beneficial impact on our nation's national security policies exactly where I am."
Ah, but look at what he DIDN'T say... no "I would never join a Democratic administration," no "John Kerry isn't going to be president," no "Bush rules, Kerry drools," etc. etc.
I didn't see the interview myself, but it sounds like Hannity and Colmes lobbed him a softball hoping to get him to knock it out of the park (I mean, like anyone really expected him to say yes?). But instead, he bunted. Rather than take the opportunity to stomp on Kerry for reaching out to him, rather than declaring his undying loyalty to Bush, McCain basically said he wouldn't take the job because he doesn't want the office. Heck, that's practically a flower.
