Ok, people. This is a rather intense time of personal crisis in my life. I bring it to you because I am in need of help and advice, and this community has always been good at giving advice.
If you're not interested, I apologize for taking up space on the page. Just ignore this post and move on.
If you don't mind the off-topic post, please read on.
My wife just got accepted as a transfer to UC Berkeley a few weeks ago. She's an undergrad English major.
I'm an environmental scientist at a consulting firm in Southern California. Got my degree in environmental science in June, got hired here in September. Been through a couple classes since then (like GIS and HAZWOPER). So I have a little work experience, and some good training.
Can't find work in or near Berkeley, and I'm a nervous wreck about it. Neither one of us has ever made a move like this before. We're newlyweds, and our only alternative if I don't get work is to send her up there without me while I keep working down here and move in with my parents, hoping to find a job near her.
I can't talk to coworkers about this, my family is not supportive of the move, and I'm starting to panic. I needed to get a sense of community somewhere. Advice that isn't bent toward making sure I don't go. Just well-wishing would be of immense help to my fragile state.
But if anyone here could use me up there, or knows someone who might, please let me know.
