Hi folks --
I'm the Internet Campaign Manager for the Byron for Congress campaign.
I'm also a blogger -- you may have visited my Shock and Awe blog when I was more active last year; you probably haven't been to the Inland Anti-Empire blog, unless you're a local.
As the primary campaign blogger for our campaign -- in addition to our Press Secretary and candidate Mike Byron himself -- I'm responsible for making sure that our campaign blog is not only up-to-date, but also something that people enjoy reading.
Which leads me to the question: What do you want from a Campaign Blog?
We've seen campaign blogs for a while now -- from the Dean campaign, originally, and then from other candidates, including Senator Kerry and Mr. Bush. Now, everyone has a campaign blog, it seems. But what makes a campaign blog actually "work"?
I can think of a number things that could be included in a campaign blog -- I'm not making this a poll, though, because I want to encourage brainstorming. Some ideas include:
- Press releases and official campaign announcements
- Pictures from campaign events
- Links to news stories about the candidate, or the opposition
- "Fun" posts, such as campaign humor or slice-of-life stories -- e.g., perhaps something about the candidate's pet tortoises
- Analysis of current issues
- Polls and opinion surveys of readers/constituents
- Links to other candidates and blogs
Which of these is the most important to you? What brings you back to a campaign blog consistently? What are your favorite campaign blogs out there?
And what am I forgetting to mention?
