What is the deal with them? It seems to go in cycles, so maybe this diary will close this cycle out (until after November).
I think that the democratic party should seak the reversal of Roe v. wade. Why do I say this? A couple of reasons.
- Abortion WILL not be illegal in more than a few states (where it is currently hard to obtain anyway).
- The issue will lose its national resonance at that point and the Democratic party will see an influx of voters who vote GOP on abortion alone.
- Conservatives will move to a select number of states and leave the rest of us alone.
- The GOP will have a choice to make on that day: fight for a national amendment banning all abortions or give up on the issue and lose its benefits.
- We won't have to read any more of these annoying diaries.
I know the downsides to what I am saying. Many will lose theoretical rights (I say theoretical, because there are very few, if any, abotion providers in the most pro-life states). We will have (supposedly) lost a front in the culture war. BUT we may lose the battle, but win the war.
I think a similar solution could be had for gay marriage.
