Ok, I just thought this was bizarre, and I wanted to let others know to be on the lookout for this dirty trick in other states.
We had a special election here in Minnesota today for state senate district 37. Republican wingnut up against an independence party nice young lady. It looks like she lost by about 60-40%... on a very low turnout election.
but that's not what I want to talk about
I've gotten a lot of emails over the past several days from advocacy groups, the DFL and so on saying "Go Vote!".
And they say, if you don't know where to vote, go to the Secretary of State's website, and enter your address in and get the info.
http://pollfinder.sos.state.mn.us/default.htm
This sounds reasonable, this is the job of the Secretary of State, to collect this information and make it available to the public.
Interesting thing, though... When I hit this site yesterday, this is the message I received...
The Secretary of State's Polling Place Finder will be unavailable until August 1, 2004.
Today, after I've already voted, after the election is apparently over... The site works fine.
I want to note two things...
#1. Our Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer is a Republican.
#2. The Minnesota GOP has a precinct finder of their own on their site, as well as a list of the polling places for SD37 precincts.
Coincidence? Conspiracy theory? Should I get my Aluminum Foil Deflector Beanie out of the closet?
I think it's time the DFL get's off it's cheney ass and starts cheney understanding cheney technology and quit cheney relying upon cheney Republicans in office for this.
I don't think this was enough to throw this election, but I'm cheney pissed that this happened, and I'm pretty cheney certain it wasn't a coincidence.
But I checked results for my precinct, 81 voted for the winnut, 71 for the nice young lady. my precinct is mostly apartments, so we have some work connecting with these people to vote.
