Recently there was a thread here about what story Josh Marshall, of Talking Points Memo, might be working on -- what big story, that is, that he hinted at a month ago, saying it would cause a "tectonic" reaction.
I have a guess. Or maybe just a musing.
I really don't know what it might be, although I have noticed that Marshall is following the Plame case very closely. So my money would be on that.
But I was wondering: what if the story is that Bush has been drinking heavily? What if Bush has wetbrain? Or if not actual wetbrain, what if he has real alcoholic impairment?
Ever since that horrible press conference when he couldn't think of a mistake he has made, I have been struck by how utterly zomboid he seems. I never thought the guy was competent at anything, but if you listen to some of the speeches he gave when campaigning in 2000, at least he could deliver them. I don't know if he can anymore -- I generally change the channel when he comes on, so I don't have a lot to go on, but it seems that his speeches are getting simpler and simpler.
And there was that photo from a few weeks ago when he walked out of the press conference after getting questions about Key Lay, and you could see some kind of aparatus under his suit. It really does seem pluasible to me that he's being beamed ansswers through an earpiece or something.
He often looks drunk, with the rosy cheeks and nose and watery eyes. He acts drunk. And he looks very, very confused.
I knew a guy who drank himself to death. He had been in and out of rehab for years, and couldn't ever really kick it. The last time I saw him was in a bar. I had gone in after work with two other non-drinkers to chow down on the free apetizers. I saw the guy and said hello, and he had no idea who I was. People said that that was just the way he was, even when he had not had anything to drink. Perpetually confused. And then he died. He was about 45.
Kinda makes one wonder, you know? I mean, even on Sept 11 he looked damned confused in that classroom, but he didn't look drunk, in any event. Now, to me, he seems even that much more out to lunch. Or has he always been this vacant?
If Marshall has a witness and corroboration of heavy Bush drinking, I think that would be earth-shaking.
Under the heading "low probability, but would be tectonic", what if Marshall has proof that Flight 93 was shot down on Cheney's order?
