This Song Should be NUMBER ONE
Encore post for anyone who may have missed it.
A couple months ago, I heard a song on the Randi Rhodes show and was thrilled by it. Then they said it wouldn't be available until early July.
Well, Will Hoge and his eponymous band's terrific song, Hey Mr. President (Anyone But You) is finally available on iTunes.
It's not just good lyrically: this is a song that could conceivably be a crossover from pop to country or back again. Very rock/country. [So far the reviews from Kossacks are pretty much uniformly great -- see the first, second and third versions of this diary for the comments and the POLL.]
I downloaded it from iTunes. For $.99 apiece, we can send this sucker to the top of the charts. How would you like to see the Number One song in the country titled Hey, Mr. President (Anyone But You)?
You can also download it at the artists' website: Will Hoge Website
Some Kossack reviews:
"Digging it.
I just downloaded it from iTunes and it's great.
Will Hoge for head of the RIAA!"

Check out the lyrics:
Hey Mr. President (Anyone But You)
Hey Mister President
Can you tell me where my money went
80 hours a week and I break my bones
and I can barely feed my 3 kids at home
bills and debts are all I call mine
I got a foot in the grave, one in the welfare line
Come november gonna go downtown
Gonna pick me up a ballot
And I'll write this down:
Anyone but you will be just fine
Anyone but you can have this vote of mine
I don't believe that what you say is true
So I'm gonna vote for anyone but you
Hey Mister President
Can you tell me why my boy got sent
Across the ocean and off to war
And I don't even know what we're fighting for
Nuclear bombs and poison gas
Would you send your own son off so fast
Probably not `cause the rich don't fight
They just sit back and let the poor kids die
Come November gonna go downtown
Gonna pick me up a ballot,
And I'll write this down:
Anyone but you will be just fine
Anyone but you can have this vote of mine
I don't believe what you say is true
So I'm gonna vote for anyone but you
Hey Mister President
Can you tell me where my job went
I went today and the factory closed
They're moving it all down to Mexico
See you on the tv every night
Sayin' everything's gonna be alright
But I don't know just what I'll do
Maybe me and my family'll come and live with you
Probably not so I'll go downtown
Pick me up a ballot
And I'll write this down
Anyone but you will be just fine
Anyone but you can have this vote of mine
I don't believe what you say is true
So I'm gonna vote for anyone but you
Give me John Kerry, give me Howard Dean
Give me John Edwards or Steve McQueen
Or Al Sharpton I don't mind
Or you can give me Ray Charles, least I know he's blind
Ronald Reagan or Schwarzenegger
I'd rather have an actor than just a faker
Gary Coleman or the guy from Cheers
Or bring Clinton back for 4 more years
Barry Goldwater, Colin Powell
I'm sure you know what I mean by now
Anyone but you will be just fine
Anyone but you can have this vote of mine
I don't believe what you say is true
So I'm gonna vote for anyone but you
by Will Hoge
I don't know about the other downloading sites, but if you have iTunes compatibility (who doesn't?), you can get yourself a taste of the song before you commit your $.99: iTunes
