Okay, I've been a slacker. I only went out in 72 because the girl I was dating hated Nixon as much as she liked me; it was mandatory. Not too presidentially successful, but Barb Mikulski reaped some bennies.
Since that time I've been politically dormant - profession, family, football on Teevee - you know, right?
Today I finally kicked off the covers and joined a group in Milwaukee, the League of Conservation Voters, in trying to restore our national sanity. I and my new friend Andy (who came up from Evanston, IL to help) went out and covered a ward in northwest Milwaukee. They had about 50 folks here doing the same thing elsewhere.
I don't know how success is measured in this biz -I only had one DSIF (door slammed in face), but I met several people who said they weren't gonna vote "because it doesn't do any good". I tried to follow up, but there wasn't much response. One young guy seemed so hopeless it made me wonder what his life meant to him.
There were plenty of Not Heres, but a bunch of solid Kerry supporters and one lovely older woman who will vote Bush, but would have voted Edwards (Wazzup wid dat?). Looks like Milwaukee will go Kerry and get some large volume, if I read folks right.
