Letter 1
-----------------------------------------------
Have you heard the news? While we were busy chasing phantom WMD in Iraq, Iran and North Korea have steadily been preparing manufacturing facilities for, you guessed it, WMD.
I sure hope this isn't true. Convincing the world of the danger will certainly be pretty tough. President Bush sold our last scrap of credibility, not to mention any claim to moral superiority, when he lied to the world to settle old scores.
But hey, we're not supposed to question the President during a time of war. Besides, the world is safer, right?
Letter 2
-----------------------------------------------
I would like to commend the Arizona Republic for bringing to our attention President Putin's recent power grab in Moscow. However, I couldn't help but notice that you failed to do the same when President Bush used 9/11 to consolidate power here at home.
Where was the editorial criticizing the Patriot Act? Where was your skepticism when Bush began imprisoning American citizens without trial or access to a lawyer?
Never mind. I think it's more important for Americans to focus on foreign abuses of power. So does President Bush, but surely that's just a coincidence.
