Carson takes lead in new OK Senate poll.
The leader in the polls in the U.S. Senate race in Oklahoma has changed for a second time as Brad Carson (D) takes the lead in what is expected to be one of the closest and most watched Senate races in the country.
Soonerpoll.com, a public opinion research firm in Oklahoma City, conducted the telephone poll of 412 statewide general election voters yesterday (9/16). The survey had a margin of error of 4.8%.
I don't know the methodology of this poll, or if they are in any way reliable. Maybe they're a Dem outlier. And of course, this is being taken at the worst time for Coburn, when the charges against him are still fresh in the public's mind and any sympathy towards him or anger towards the woman he sterilized has yet to materialize. Either way, it's good news, especially since they had Coburn 44%-Carson 37% at the end of August. The Freepers were creaming their Underoos at this poll a few weeks back. I guess they will just ignore today's results.
Undecided has been climbing steadly for over a month. Now it's at 21%, probably because of Coburn fans starting to question their vote.
The ugly attack ads against Carson are going to be starting by the end of the month, right? Hopefully he can build enough momentum to not lose too much support.
No mention of the poll yet on his official site.
Update: Kos here -- the Sooner poll is a Republican outfit, a fact they brag about on their site:
Chris has become a veteran of Oklahoma Republican campaigns over the last fourteen years. Starting his political career in high school, he served as the Volunteer Coordinator for Mickey Edwards’ 1990 and 1992 Congressional campaigns [...]
Along the way Chris has managed campaigns at the state, municipal and county level. He returned to the Oklahoma Republican Party in 2003 as the State Finance Director for Chairman Gary Jones.
For party hacks like these to show Carson with that sort of lead, you know things are going south for Coburn. Given Coburn's history, I really dread what "going nuclear" will look like, because that'll be his only option pretty soon.
