I just had a thought while reading the "Breaking the Bank" diary. I may be full of it (it's been accused before!) but here it goes.
I've read in a few diaries and heard in a few conversations that "well Bush gave us $xxx so he's a good guy."
Um.. well..no, he didn't "give" you $xxx. He sent you an advance on your projected refund. I remember that you had to check a little box or something on the tax form if you got the check because it was deducted from any refund you got when you filed your 2003 taxes. Am I right about this?? I'm not at home right now and can't look up my 1040.
If so, you can use that as a comeback on some of these people. They didn't get anything for free, they just got their own money a few months ahead of time. It wasn't a rebate, it was an advance.
Bait and switch, smoke and mirrors. These people have to be made aware they were played!
