An Essay
Today Mr. Bush, during a press conference with the Interim Iraqi Prime Minister, dismissed the July National Intelligence Estimate by saying that it was "just guessing...."
Obviously Mr. Bush believes that the rest of the professional world lives by his own bleak and lackadaisical attitudes towards his own job requirements. Attitudes he has shown throughout his lifetime with failed business ventures, AWOL excursions, and a proven streak of compulsive lying that would have failed him out of any reasonable kindergarten classroom.
Part of the problem is that our president is the quintessential "dumb kid" who got left back a few years in school and has to take out his anger and frustration on the rest of us who are just trying to get through our own lives. The really sad part of all of this is that, given a different set of life circumstances, George might have turned out okay. Like all the "dumb kids" he's probably not really all that dumb. He's just led an unchallenging and coddled life, leaving him with a large core of insecurity about his own abilities that he constantly covers up with a veneer of "resoluteness" and machismo....
Take a look at all of the buzzwords of his campaign and you'll see all of his glaring insecurities and flaws exposed for all to see. He needs to use those words over and over again to plug up all of the holes. Any self-respecting resolute person wouldn't feel the need to remind you of that fact every 3 sentences or so. Any self-respecting strong leader wouldn't feel the need to call themselves that. They would just actually BE strong and everyone would know that's what they were. Ghandi didn't feel the need to call himself a strong leader every time he opened his mouth. Yet he epitomized strength, focus, resolution, will.
I'd like to see George face down the opposing army of the insurgency by walking out unarmed with his closest advisors and placing his life on the line to uphold his ideals. If he truly had strength, vision, and conviction, the insurgency would eventually be overcome by the simple Christian faith of turning the other cheek, in this case giving to the Iraqi people a real chance to help themselves to rebuild their country through sharing of reconstruction contracts with actual Iraqis. But unfortunately, he doesn't really espouse his much vaunted Christian ideals. He doesn't even have the strength of conviction to stand his ground here at home. Loyalty oaths, undisclosed locations, smear campaigns, lies, and 7 minutes of blank faced staring don't exactly add up to a man of backbone or character.
And so we come today to yet more selective categorizing of our Intelligence Data. A forged document from Nigeria is OKAY but an exhaustive analysis over many months by our nations leading experts is "guessing." A navy board conclusion of granted medals is still "questionable" but easily corroborated evidence of dereliction of duty is "false and baseless." 2 bi-partisan panels conclude that Saddam had no WMD or real connection to Al-Qeada, but yet we still hear the opposite. A 150+ countries and countless scientists caution against global warning is "junk science". And we're all just pessimists for not wanting to drink Georgie's Magic Elixir that makes everything just fine........
Why? It's simple really. George has a direct line to God's ear. Just ask him. And in his unchallenged and coddled little mind, and his life experience where everyone cleans up after him, that is absolutely the truth. He must have a direct line to God..........how else could he have screwed up so much and still have it turn out just fine in the end.
If you believed you had a direct line to God in your head would you bother to listen to anyone else? Not your scientists, not your military advisors, certainly not your public.
So we are basically currently stuck with Joan of Arc for president. And we're up the creek without a stake to burn him on for heresy. We are supposed to believe, as George believes, that everything will work out just fine. Why not? It always has for him before. The problem is that this mess is way beyond something that Daddy Bush can fix with help and greasy palms from a few family friends.
Now if only the Monty Python crew was to suddenly burst in the door and bring out the rack. Because if we don't manage to put Kerry in the oval office on November 2nd, the Spanish Inquisition might be our only hope............
