Today's SF Chronicle sites a number of stats showing a narrowing gender gap between Bush and Kerry. What's interesting is their interpretation of their data. Here's my letter to the editor:
Editor:
According to your own copy, in 2000 unknown Candidate Bush received 43% of women's votes and 53% of men's votes. In 2004, well-known President Bush is so far polling at 40% of the women's vote and 49% of the men's vote. Your headline reads "Terror concerns move more women into Bush camp". Am I missing something here or are your headlines exactly the opposite of the content of your story? A more accurate portrayal of the statistics you site would portray Bush losing ground while Kerry has room to grow.
Sincerely,.....
If your local papers continually print blaring 30-point headlines that are diametrically opposed to the actual content of the story, hold them to account! It's like the RNC has taken over the chore of writing the headlines for the major daily papers knowing most people don't read beyond this point.
Aside from all this.....I did enjoy reading that Bush has lost support among both men and women, there may be a narrowing of the gender gap but that hasn't translated to increased support for the Shrub. Kerry still has a lot of room to grow between now and election day.
