MoveOn PAC:
Today, we're highlighting five Congressional candidates in tight races who are speaking out against the Iraq war. Together, we can reward these heroes for putting the best interest of the country first.
Of course, MoveOn picked our Ginny Schrader as one of these five candidates:
The surprise retirement of Republican Congressman Jim Greenwood has given Ginny Schrader a great chance of taking back a key Pennsylvania House seat. Schrader's story is a wonderful one: she worked her way through school while raising her children as a single mother, went back to law school at the age of 39, and became the first female Vice President and Counsel for a successful business. On the war she commented, "I believe we were misled into a war we should not have been in. This has cost us dearly in lives, resources and our standing in the world." We need people like Ginny in Washington.
If Ginny has the resources to get out her message, she will win. Join Kos in giving her the resources to tell her story and get out her message
Choice shows the clear choice
Leading pro-choice group switches political camps: The Intelligencer:
The area's leading pro-choice group officially endorsed Democrat Ginny Schrader on Thursday, again thrusting abortion to the forefront of this year's race for the 8th Congressional District.
The endorsement itself comes as no surprise - Schrader's GOP opponent largely opposes abortion rights. But it is still notable because Planned Parenthood Action Fund of Bucks County has been a staunch ally of the area's retiring congressman, Republican Jim Greenwood.
This comes on top of the big Ginny Schrader news that Kos discussed in the context of PA-08 polling.
Republican Women Support Ginny
The Intelligencer continues,
"I consider myself the true Republican, saying government should stay out of our lives," said Gail Edwardson of Lower Makefield. She said it gave her "pause" to vote for a Democrat, but she would in large part because of the abortion issue.
The Philly Inquirer story had this quote:
Talk to Ellen Faulkner about abortion rights and passion takes over. The Iraq war and stamping out terrorism are important, but the self-described moderate Republican says the issue of "choice" is not one to compromise.
So in November, Faulkner, 46, of Chalfont, will support Democrat Virginia "Ginny" Schrader over Republican Michael G. Fitzpatrick because of his antiabortion stance. She expects her Republican friends to follow suit.
Also noted in this story:
But Fitzpatrick was unable to convince Maggie Rash, a Republican Buckingham Township supervisor known for her independence from local GOP bosses.
She spoke with Fitzpatrick on the phone after he got the nod to run in place of Greenwood. She told him she couldn't support him.
Almost everyone she knows - even in her Presbyterian church - is for abortion rights. Even though she doesn't like to think "that narrowly," Fitzpatrick's abortion stance is too much to overcome, she said.
"It's not the only issue," she said. "For me, it is the deciding issue."
Yet knowing this, this morning's Daily News says Emily's list is still sitting the race out???
A question is whether Schrader can raise serious money. Emily's List is still evaluating her campaign.
Contact Emily's List and let them know their help can put Ginny over the top. Why, because...
It gets even better
Not only are moderate woman abandoning Fitzgerald, but the Morning Call says right-wing women may end up voting for the Constitution Party candidate Erich Lukas rather than Fitzpatrick, who has been flip-flopping since political handlers took over his campaign:
Still, [Judy] Hollewinski [Bucks County Pro-Life Coalition] said, given Fitzpatrick's comments last week about stem cell research, she doesn't know whether she would vote for him now, either.
''I really have to think about it,'' she said. ''It's so sad.''
In fact, these Mike Fitzpatrick flip flops are costing him support from many on the right:
''I'm very shocked, quite frankly,'' said Joe Mortimer, president of Bucks County's Voices for the Unborn. ''We offered to throw our support behind him, but if that's what he stands for, we can't do that.''
Yet too many on the right understand this seat is a huge opportunity:
John Stanton, executive director of the Pro-Life Union of Southeastern Pennsylvania. "But even before Greenwood, (the 8TH District) was the pro-abortion seat, so we're overjoyed and gratified that we have this possibility of having that seat."
