UPDATE: Yay! Thanks to everyone who is committing to our prayer/meditation/mojo-fest at 7:45 Central time, Thursday. I will post a reminder in the diaries that day.
-----------
Ok, folks -- most of you are going to think this is a loony idea, but that's ok. I am going to pray for John Kerry prior to the debate Thursday night and I'm looking for some fellow travelers to join me. You know Bush's people are going to be doing it. Let's focus some of that power over this-a-way.
In medical research, intercessary prayer has been shown to be effective in reducing complications. Note that in the study I've cited, people of all faith traditions prayed, and the persons being prayed for did not know about it.
Call it prayer, positive energy, meditation, mojo -- whatever you like. I want to focus some of it on this election.
I'm a Christian, but I'm not looking just for people of my faith tradition. I'm looking for anyone who wants to *do* something this Thursday night and believes there's more to this life than podiums, earpieces and Karl Rove.
Now, I have to be honest. I'm interested in praying *before* the event, because frankly? I may be playing a drinking game during it.
In my faith tradition it says "where two or more are gathered" and it doesn't say it can't be on the internet. So I simply want several of us to commit to 5 minutes of focused "prayer" prior to the debate. Serious prayer, not our usual, "please God, let Bush fall on his ass" or "please God, let Kerry decrease his use of modifying clauses."
If you're interested, e-mail me at asklouise*at*gmail*dot*com or simply reply to this post. The debate starts at 9pm Eastern or -- in my life -- 8pm Central. Commit to praying/meditating/focusing at 7:45pm CST for 5 minutes.
I can't be there to get Kerry ready, or remind him of critical Kossack advice, so I'm going to do what I can. This is not desperation; this is pro-active energy. Anyone with me?
