Liberal American Authors speak
For once in Germany I paid the high price for an English Sunday newspaper and found a very thoughtful article in the magazine section.
I have only read two of the books by the authors in the article, in fact I'd only heard of three of them.
The article is here Once Upon a Time in America.
The rest below the fold.
The authors interviewed are:
*Carl Hiaasen
*Paul Auster
*Richard Ford
*Deborah Eisenberg
*Siri Hustvedt
*ZZ Packer
*Jonathan Safron Foer
*Junot Diaz
*Wallace Shawn
I realise that 7 of them live in New York and therefore represent the liberal if not progressive literary viewpoint of that city.
The viewpoints are all anti-Bush and anti-Republican, but not necessarily all out in favour of Kerry.
Do you think that they are representative of the literary world in the US?
Would you classify them as mainstream authors or literary?
Are there any writers, outside the known right-wingers and fundamentalist Christians who support Bush?
