Well it looks like Air America is getting some new stations this new year including the cities of Detroit, Washington DC, Cincinnati, parts of Vermont and LA (probably).
More after the break
Well anyone who has been paying attention knew that Air America would be coming to Washington DC on WWRC 1260AM (
coverage map here), Cincinnati on WCKY 1360AM (
coverage map here), and in Brattleboro, VT on WKVT 1490AM (
coverage map here).
The nice thing about the Vermont station is it takes out Rush Limbaugh in the process.
The new news is they are also coming to Detroit on WXDX 1310AM (coverage map here). This wasn't talked about widely and gives Air America another good city.
However the bad news in Detroit is I hear that the signal is not great (someone correct me if I am wrong), but hopefully Air America will do what its been doing with a lot of the older signals and clean/upgrade it.
The other news which has been rumored for a long time but now seems to actually be happening (minus the actual announcement) is AA is coming to Los Angeles.
On Feb 3rd, 570AM KLAC will switch to sports and 690AM XTRA will switch to Fabulous format (basically they switch places). You can see this by going to either of there websites which informs you of the switch.
Why this is important is this frees up 1150AM which used to simalcast the sports radio on 690AM.
This all but confirms 1150AM will become Air America in Los Angeles (mainly since the other option is a spanish station and the LA area is saturated with spanish language stations). In fact All-Access is strongly hinting Air America will come back and we know Air America did announce recently it will be back in LA.
Here is a discussion on the change at radio-info.com.
Update: Crap forgot to say that Washington DC, Detroit & Cinn all switch to Air America on Monday, January 17.
