Bush says he is pushing privatization, among other things to reduce our "dependence on government".
But is accepting a $1200 check from Social Security really a sign of excessive dependence on government, particularly when you have been paying into the program all your life? Is accepting Medicare coverage excessive dependence, when the private sector simply does not offer coverage to individuals of Medicare age?
Isn't the real problem of dependency among Bush's constituency? What about Halliburton and the rest of the Beltway Bandits, aren't they the real government dependents? And what about all those companies shelling out for the Inauguration for later favors? Isn't the definition of modern Republicanism identifying pots of Federal money that you can sell access to?
