It truly is becoming a comedy of errors, but everyone who the Democratic Party establishment has put forth as their designated candidate to assume the position of DNC chair, has ended up being exposed as having feet of clay or being a total joke.
The latest buzz is that Howard Dean is the clear front-runner to win this position.
But experience has taught me that when it comes to contests like this, never underestimate the power and capacity of entrenched, status quo interests that feel that they have something to lose if real reform occurs, to try things to prevent such reform from taking place. I believe that these people will stop at nothing to take out Dean . . . just as they did in his bid for the Dem nomination for President.
Well, yesterday, someone told me that she was listening to NPR recently and that Donna Brazille said that there will be other names, as yet undisclosed, that would enter the contest for the DNC chair in the weeks ahead.
Now, I really do believe that the people who oppose Dean becoming DNC chair are DESPERATE to maintain the status quo in the party, and scared shitless of Dean coming in. The problem is, that every "anti-Dean" candidate they've so far offered has ended up falling like a lead balloon.
So, if you were part of the Dem establishment, and wanted to make sure that Dean wouldn't get anywhere near the position of DNC chair, and if every candidate that you've so far offered as an "anti-Dean" alternative has ended up being not taken seriously, what to do?
Why, you get the ultimate "anti-Dean" candidate to come in and derail what looks like an inevitable outcome. Who would this ultimate selection be?
At this point, there is only one person in the Party that I can think of who has the stature to present a credible "anti-Dean" possility. And, to my thinking, this person is none other than Bill Clinton.
Think about it: Clinton has enough stature within the Party that he might actually end up defeating Dean for the position of DNC chair. Moreover, he is a pure Dem establishment choice who won't rock the boat or shake things up too much in terms of the way the elites of the Party conduct business.
Plus, to sweaten the pie for him, if Clinton is DNC chair, he is put in a position whereby he can help his own wife in her 2008 run for President.
As I said before, Clinton seems like the last ditch, logical choice for the anti-reform interests in the Dem Party.
I wonder if Brazille wasn't hinting that Bill is going to be revealed in the days ahead as the person who will come in and derail Dean's bid for DNC chair?
