Kos wrote an excellent piece on the Bush Adminstration's flip-flop on the gay marriage amendment and the subsequent angry reaction from the religious right.
The Inaguration should reinforce this message from the Bush Administration. Lord knows that everything in the inaguration was scripted, from the makeup Bush wore to the positioning of the secret service agents.
So I know that they intentionally had Mary Cheney hold the bible while her father was sworn in.
Now I personally think it is a nice, inclusive gesture. But just imagine what the religious right, including such fine citizens as Fred Phelps and Ralph Reed, think when a woman attacked by Alan Keyes as a "selfish hedonist" holds the bible at the inaguration.
I have no doubts that this was the Bush administration moving away from the Religious Right and giving them a symbolic slap in the face.
So what do y'all think?
