Tonight, like a lot of people I assume, I was doing my laundry [as well as a bit of my girlfriend's] and I had a thought. People in goverment don't do their own laundry. Man, that would be nice, I thought to myself. Then the second thought came: Why don't they do their own laundry?
A silly question you say? No. Really. Think about it...
The reason people in elected government get their laundry done by someone else at taxpayer expense [our tax dollars pay their salary, as well as fund all their pet programs for all their campaign contributors, right?] is that we as a nation don't want them to...they really should be thinking about other things, like, say - avoiding wars, for one. No, we have their laundry done for them so that we, those who actually do laundry, know they have more time to do what we voted them into office to do. Makes perfect sense.
There, question answered. But then, as my mind often does when I do laundry, I had another thought...did Bush ever have to do his own laundry? Is that a silly question?
You bet your ass.
There is a zero to nil chance that George W. Bush has ever done a scrap of laundry in his entire life. During childhood, in Conneticut, grandson of successful corpratist Prescott Bush, I'm guessing there was at least 3 people on full time staff for doing the household chores. I'm even doubting he brought his laundry home on visits from Yale [Question to all Yale Skull & Bones members in the 60's?]. And I'm pretty darn sure he didn't use any Tide during his unsuccessful bids in the oil industry or as governor of Texas. President? Fagettaboutit.
And now for some Rumsfelding:
Does deserves do have his laundry done at taxpayer expense? Of course not. Do I think Bush has violated the responsibilities of the Executive branch in the US [such as lying to start an unnecessary war, alienating world allies in trade and defense, and being a complete corporate whore]? Yes...that is the Pope and he is indeed shitting in those woods.
The apparent inability of this man and this administration to show even a modicom of reasonable judgement has me baffled. One should not have to have contimplative discussions with oneself on how they feel about the president of the United States doing his own laundry. An even marginally bad President deserves that much of a 'thank you' for their service[Hoover, you are safe from my wrath. Besides, he's from Iowa!] . I cannot say the same for GWB. He has even squandered my past sympathy for being President at the time of 9/11. [Condi knew about it...that memo...uh, I believe it was called "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States"? 'Intellegence failure' indeed.] That has been replaced with absolute seething contempt.
In an effort to bring GWB even a smidgeon closer to reality, I wish to rescind this priveledge that we the people have gifted to him as a perk of the Presidency. He should now do his own...maybe he will do as I did, and take a moment to have a thought on some of the things he naiively accepts into his own personal gospel. It's a start...if we were going for full weight of contempt, I would have to demand that he do the rest of the country's laundry as well as his. Except Cheney's. Let that man start showing how dirty he is on the outside instead of just the inside...but that's a different diary.
So, I dunno, I'm starting a petition or something. Maybe we can get Boxer to sign on, as I'm sure she'd agree. [Side note: Senator, I am available to do your laundry.] Until Bush is made to understand the gravity of his mistakes on terms he understands, or until more people have random thoughts about the real worth of this President while doing their laundry, absolutely nothing will change. I, for one, am afraid of that scenario.
So, Bush, grab your Tide and your Downy...because just like your mistakes, laundry piles up quickly.
