Boy, oh, boy. Looks like the lines are being quietly drawn in the sand. Anyway, the missiles are the surface-air variety. Predictably enough, the Israelis are hopping mad, while the US is none too happy.
To me, it really sounds like Russia along others are preparing Iran and Syria for a US invasion. Anyone knows that the US military depends on the airpower to throughly chew up all targets for the ground forces. A quality AA screen can seriously slow down any invasion.
Then we have Russia building a nuclear reactor for Iran (I think it's already finished except for the fuel rods). There seems to be a serious effort to make Iran go nuclear to make it a no-go zone. In my opinion, even if Iran's facilities can't produce weapons quality Uranium or Plutonium, it opens up a way to deliver those materials from abroad while maintaning a plausible deniability. Needless to say, nuclear Iran will be a major roadblock for the neocons.
I think a lot of this is simple fallout from the re-election of * and the intervention in Ukraine. The Russians are not too happy about this, given the time and effort Russia went through to establish itself there. Also, does everyone else remember Kerry promising that he has 'no longterm plans for Iraq' or something like that? Now that I think about it, I think it was meant for people who (understandably) suspect that Iraq is just the beachhead for Iran, Syria, and others.
